Corney & Barrow, Wine Merchants by Appointment to the HM The Queen, HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and HRH The Prince of Wales.
This was a small tasting at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London. Twenty wines were on show and these are a few notes on the BEST OF THIS BUNCH'.

1. Trawal Wine Cellar, Sauvignon Blanc 1994 Oliphants River. Stg.5.10. Nice touch of oak, good fruit with long dry fruit.

2. Dashwood. Sauvignon Blanc 94. Marlborough. Stg 8.25
Nicely spicy, gooseberries, limes, lemons and asparagus palate.

3. Sancerre, Domaine du Nozay. 93. P de Benoist. Stg 8.17
Good fruity nose, quite a light gooseberry and lemon palate with very good length.

4. Kushushu Creek, Chardonnay. 94 Paarl Stg 5.42
Nice honeyed melons on the palate together with a touch of oak, good medium weight. Very nice indeed.

5. Corney & Barrow's Barossa Valley, Chardonnay 1993, Simon Hackett Stg 6.17
A real Oz Chardy nose, big and powerful. The palate has lots of spicy lychee, creamy honey with a good dose of oak.

6. Hillebrand Gamay 1993, Niagara Stg 5.35
Hottish toasty nose, the palate is quite definitely a gamay , crushed blackberries with a touch of blackcurrant, not bad at all.

7. Stanton Hills, Pinot Noir 1990, Oregon Stg 8.91
Superbly scented nose, very easy, perhaps to easy a palate, enjoyable but to expensive as all U.S. Pinots are.

8. Rhebokskloof Pinotage 1993, Paarl Stg 7.17
Nice peppery palate, a lighter style pinotage with very good length.

9. Vinsobres, Domaine de la Bicarelle 1990, Cote du Rhone Villages Stg 6.25
Nice concentration of soft fruit, very approachable and jolly easy for a C de R.

10. Chateauneuf du Pape 1992, Caveaux des Comadins Stg 7.75
Big ripe fruit, nicely balanced and well made with very good length.

11. Chateau Grossmore 1992, Bordeaux. Stg 6.25
Lovely nose, good touch of cedar, berries and spice on the palate. Very nice.

12. Chateau Roylland 1992, Grand Cru St. Emilion Stg 10.85
Amazing cigar box nose for a S. E. excellent blackcurrants and redcurrant palate. Very nice indeed.

13. Corney & Barrow's McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 1991, Simon Hackett Stg 6.17
Big soft fruit with a nice touch of pepper amongst the big concentrated palate packed with berries. Very good.

14. Amarone Vigneti Casterna 1990, Pasqua Stg 7.67
Super, marvellous, well made and I am speechless, use after dinner instead of port.
