Catena Alta, Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

In March 2000, Regain a charity for sports tetraplegics , which I support, were given twenty cases of Catena Alta, Cabernet Sauvignon 1996to help raise money at their annual ball. This is a fantastic wine. A bit heavy for a ball, but as the theme was South American it was appropriate and a very generous gesture. I have been recommending this superb wine since I first tasted it in 1998. Buy now if you can find some before the price and availability push the cost beyond most peoples' reach.

This is the best red wine from the whole of the South American continent. Therefore in the top echelon of New World red wines. It competes head to head with many top Californian wines and beats the pants of South Africa and most of Australia. Apart from three or four reds from New Zealand the rest are also rans.
